Digipak Editing Update
Digipak Editing

Here are some screen shots of us editing the final draft of our digipak, we had just finished the overall design, and we were adding finishing touches to make them all flow along each different cover and making them all match by playing with the colour filter around the edges getting them all black. As well as experimenting with layout of the texts such as the track-list and the copyright info on the back cover.

Evaluation Question 3
What have you learned from your audience feedback?
Near the start of the course work we created interview scripts to ask to hand selected people, to find out their opinions on what they would like to see in a music video of our chosen genre. These people were chosen because they liked the genre of music and had seen lots of different music videos in the genre, this made them valuable assets to us as together they represent the average audience member as well as selecting them based on age too, this allowed us to cover our target audiences in each age group.
Things we learnt from our interviews, things they would like to see in a music video;
-Strong performance aspects
-Fast tempo video, strong editing that keeps the video lively and constantly changing.
-Somewhat a balance of narrative and performance to compliment each other and keep interest.
-Nothing romantic as it is overused.
The overall feedback we received from the interviews was that they wanted to see a music video with a large emphasis on the music, e.g. the artists playing the music, in a live gig kind of fashion. They also said that the appear of rock music in general is the high tempo, that gives them adrenaline and drives them. So I interpreted this as making the video strong in terms of editing to match the tempo and keeping the video adrenaline fuelled and 'in your face' with fast cutting as well as enjoyable and exciting.
We took this feedback to the development of our music video by including a heavier role of performance in the music, in the storyboard for example and leading the video by starting with this, to quickly establish what the audience wanted to see.
After the vague questionnaire interviews we had with these people, we then conducted individual interviews, where we went into greater depth with a member of our target audience and discusses what makes a good rock music video. The results from this were very promising, all of our interviewees stated how much they like a band performance in a music video. The tempo of the song also was said to contribute to a good rock music video because it can reflect the tone of the song through visuals. The key findings from these interviews were;
-A large interest in performance based narrative with a hint of story to spice it up.
-Main focus on the band then other actors.
-Editing to fit the tempo of the song.
Target audience conclusion
This research cemented our initial thoughts for the direction our music video should take in terms of narrative and visuals, we all enjoy the genre ourselves and hearing this from other people of different age groups and backgrounds made us more certain of how we wanted to present our music video and allowing us to aim high in terms of creativity, without worrying if it will turn out compared to others and conventions of the genre's existing music videos.
After we worked on our initial ideas for music videos, with the constructive feedback we received, we decided to pitch our best idea including song choice to the rest of our class.
The feedback we received from this was very constructive and was given in our best interest, which made the feedback very valuable.
Good Ideas
Feedback during editing
During the editing process of our music video, we asked for collective feedback on the work so far, showing them the direction it is heading in and what we intend to do with it. This feedback is helpful at this stage as it allows us to change and reform the music video if necessary to make it better and improve it from the class' feedback. Its good to get the opinions of people outside of your group when making something that's a lot of work such as a music video. The feedback we got was mainly pointers in the way the story should develop towards the end, which was helpful and appreciated feedback. This advice was clearly noted as the music video was adjusted by replacing some of the drum part with more narrative. The feedback that was given was;
Positive Feedback

The blank spaces were mainly filled by singing shots and also some narrative that we had previously filmed. We also repeated some performance parts because they were relevant in such places as the chorus and worked well with the music.
Digipak Feedback
The digipak feedback was given after 6 drafts had been drawn up. here is the feedback that was given;

The feedback from this was very detailed, all the ideas had there good parts and bad. The idea that the class gave was to combine 4 ideas fro 4 different digipak drafts into 1 complete digipak. This was a very good idea because no sing digipak has a complete good idea through out, combining 4 could give us a really appealing album cover.
After the feedback, we managed to complete the digipak with the ideas fro the feedback, I thought that it was effective. The feedback from it was;
Overall design was good, the colour we used really followed the genre and the picture followed the conventions of other rock digipaks. The creative use of smashed glass was highly praised. The things to be improved that was suggested by the class were;

Magazine Advert Feedback
During the draft and final process of the magazine adverts, we asked the class for feedback on our ideas thus far. Their feedback was very constructive and helpful. They noticed some points that we overlooked, which were;
-From the magazine advert drafts we produced, the favourite one by the rest of the class was the one featuring the digipak being held by a hand punching through glass. They said how this is a clever way of including brand identity because its clearly showing the album cover which is an effective promotion tool. The hand punching through the glass was said to connote the brash tones in the music and also portrays the genre really well. After this feedback we felt very encouraged to use this magazine advert. All we had left was to decide on things like colour schemes that will look original but also adhere to brand identity.

Facebook and YouTube Feedback
After our video was finally finished, we posted it on Facebook, we got some welcoming results in terms of feedback, everyone commented on how the themes are expressed in a really clear way. One person who commented didn't understand the use of the use of the bong in the video, but this person didn't fit our target audience so didn't understand the relevance. This shows how the ideas in the video are only really obvious to the target audience, one helpful comment stated that the use of the band was very effective and professional looking. We aimed to ake the band look as believable as possible and we now feel like this has been achieved to a high standard. One comment also stated how the video was an accurate representation of any people in society but with a light-hearted comical spin on the idea. This is what we aimed for through the use of substance abuse and mild violence in the context and setting.
This Facebook feedback was very helpful because the video is directly seen by members of our target audience and it gives them a place to comment on the video however they may want to, this mainly involves people giving their opinion on good and bad points of the video.

Conclusion
In conclusion, I thought that all the feedback we received was helpful in allowing us to hear peoples opinions on our work at each stage of its production, I also think all negative feedback given was constructive as it allowed us to see possible ways we can improve and make each product the best it can be.

The feedback we received from this was very constructive and was given in our best interest, which made the feedback very valuable.
Good Ideas
- The video's narrative revolves around the Theory of Opposites, which is where it follows two very different people with very different lifestyles and characteristics.
- The overall use of two different narratives, performance/story.
- The use of creative camera shots. (e.g. POV from guitar neck)
- Performance elements where appropriate
- Creative editing such as spit screen between two characters, highlighting the differences between them.
- Where to stage narratives?
- characters? how to make them very different
- linking split screen to lyrics
- twist at the end, (maybe the two opposite characters meet).

The blank spaces were mainly filled by singing shots and also some narrative that we had previously filmed. We also repeated some performance parts because they were relevant in such places as the chorus and worked well with the music.
This feedback was very helpful because a lot of the members of our class fit our target audience, making there opinions matter greatly as it has to appeal to them. Following their advice can really help us impact and appeal to our target audience because they will expect the same things as the rest of our target audience.
